Home Energy Aid Month events kicked off in Shawnee on Thursday with their annual Potato & Brisket Luncheon, hosted by the Shawnee Salvation Army. Diane Collins, Director of Social Services Ministries for the Shawnee Corps, served patrons who, for a donation to the Home Energy Aid fund, were treated to a fabulous lunch of loaded baked potatoes, homemade barbecue brisket, and an array of desert pastries.
With all the menu items being donated the luncheon was able to raise over $550. One hundred percent of the proceeds will be placed into the Home Energy Aid fund. The fund helps those in Shawnee and surrounding counties in times of home energy needs, such as utility assistance, firewood and propane for gas heaters.
Home Energy Aid Month continues all across the state of Oklahoma in July, with many Salvation Army Corps and Service Units hosting similar fundraisers.
