Volunteers prepared thousand of  meals for  elderly shut-ins on Thanksgiving Day 2011.

Loneliness is a serious problem that no medicine can cure. The Salvation Army’s League of Mercy in Jackson visits hospitals, nursing homes, correctional institutions, veterans hospitals, children’s homes, and independent seniors to help alleviate such suffering. The League of Mercy is made up of volunteers and officers who make year-round visits to institutions and individuals who are home-bound to interact with them, distribute personal articles, give them books and magazines or study the Bible. Special gifts are distributed to these individuals during Christmas, and Easter. On Thanksgiving Day a team of volunteers helps prepare, pack and distribute a full turkey dinner to each person the League of Mercy serves.
